Hey people! I'm back!
Haha!
This entry gonna be a long one where I will walk you through a week's worth of fun and adventure, something you most prob wudnt get here in lion city.
Phew! Tat was tiring but it was fun. Bali was great - the people, culture, food and most importantly, the way of life. It is something that you cant get in Singapore where everything is like so organised and everyone is in the rat race whether ur happy or not. There, people ride on the horse carriages, man the stalls even tho theres no patron and make a lifestyle out of the beach.
It was great having the company of Mel, Afa and Yanren. Of coz, my room buddy Mel, haf to endure the snoring and antics of mine but overall it was kinda a 9/10 outing for us. We had been on a couple of vacations before but this is surely the most happening. Hmm... first would be the second day. Its watersport day - scuba diving and wakeboarding. Nobody said it was easy and really, it was not! Diving was a challenge for me and thanks to the effort, I lost my hearing ability in my right ear due to the excessive pressure on my ear drum. (For those who neva dive, the pressure is like how u go onboard a flight but the difference is ur underwater. Haha!) I hope this gonna be temporary and i think i gonna see the doc realli soon. :( The wakeboarding session was also great...bravo to those who can stand on on board but multiple unsuccessful tries are common i guess, esp for beginners. And the Indian Ocean doesnt help that much with the strong currents and unfrenly waves!
The next day was a shopping day! I guess shopping is juz ordinary and nothing much was on my attention. But i had to buy some clothes tho cos I went there literally empty-handed except for my lappy and my handphone charger. Haha! I got to admit the nightlife there is quite distributed so there wasnt a certain area where we cud haf a buffet of clubs to choose from except that we need to find our way there ourselves.
We were lucky to get a guide, Eko, to lead us around after the first day of unsuccessful attempt to rent our own bike. haha! The traffic there is superb. It would be cool if you could find more than 3 traffic lights and find 2 petrol kiosks. Haha! Horning was a normal thing there and traffic is very chaotic esp during peak hours but the strange thing, accident seldom happen. If you would every need to top-up the petrol, do it anywhere you can find. This includes roadside shops where they store petrol in a 1 litre Vodka bottle for Rp 5000! Try tat in Singpore and chances are you might be prosecuted! (:
Bali is a city of modern civilisation but yet the culture and tradition still restored. There are many dances that represent the strong balinese presence. Saw one altho we planned to watch two of the more infamous ones. We watched ketchak dance at dawn and it was very fascinating.
You see ppl going into trance and the sidelines of performers going "ketchak" for the next one hour, it was great. But juz then. (:
So for now, back to the normal life.
Dunno when the next trip will be.
Ireland sept for convocation? I hope so.
Bangkok end of yr? Anyone game for a shopping spree?
Till then.
(:
